Sac-Tahoe-Sac training begins

We have narrowed it down to early May for Sac-Tahoe-Sac. This will be roughly 250 miles in four days. Juliette and I will head up to South Lake to check out roads in the coming weeks and pick the best possible route. I'll be using the blog to post my workouts and updates for this epic ride.

Jan 21 - Interval training: 15 min warm-up; 3 reps of 3 min 80-90% with 3 min rest; 10 minute full recovery; 4 reps of 1 min all-out, out-of-saddle; cool down; home total mileage: 20

40 Salmon Falls Route

I forgot to post this route and pics from a couple months ago.  If a Sac-Tahoe-Sac Tour is really gonna happen, this will be a necessary course for training.

12/13 Ride

It ended up being a beautiful day despite the rain forecast. Mark, Steve and I headed up Garden Highway at a decent clip for a 30 miler roundtrip. The City Bike Works guys blew by us but they were about half size and it was tempting to latch on for a bit. The ride was perfect the whole way and I planted the seed in my fellow riders' heads... Sac-Tahoe-Sac Tour!!! A beautiful 4 day event with some excruciating climbing, beautiful views and roughly 300 miles of road. Stay tuned.

MTB at Granite Bay

This wasn't my first trip to Granite Bay but it was an excellent one. The weather was great and the trails were not crowded. After a half dozen rides on my Kona I began to feel one with my machine. A couple more visits to this non-technical series of trails and I may be up for a different challenge. I hope this continues as I am trying to get out once a week in order to feel comfortable enough to hang with some friends coming out to visit in February. That said, if anyone is interested in hitting the trails in addition to the roads feel free to contact me via this blog or e-mail: ryan.alvey@gmail.com.

Saturday Group Rides

Every Saturday at 10am starting in November we will meet at Natomas Bike Shop (corner of Truxel and San Juan) and head out for 20-40 miles. Whoever shows will determine the distance and pace. We ride no drops. Below are a few route options that can be adjusted to start at Natomas Bike Shop.
Here's the classic River Trail route, 22.5 miles of it anyway, for a 45 round trip.
